Exploring The Hague
When you are a "new citizen" in a "new city", what is the experience? In what differs the new place compared to the one you came from? What is it — besides the new workplace — that grabs your attention and why?
In this workshop/meeting we are going to examine this by exploring the city of The Hague — with a camera.
Like every major city, The Hague has some attractive and some bad neighborhoods. We will focus on the more positive scenic areas. The workshop is not intended to become a better photographer or learning on how to be "a local tourist".
During our walks we will have (lighthearted and not too general) discussions about the city and what it represents - can represent. The basics on how to shoot better pictures will be part of it.
In december 2011, Richard Brouwer exhibited his view on The Hague in the exhibition; The Manatee of The Hague at Nutshuis, The Hague.
First Day;
- introduction
- a brief explanation about the basics of the camera; aperture, shutter speed.
- a brief presentation of examples of landscape/urban photography.
- tips & tricks on how to make a better picture.
Downtown; Binnenhof – Lange Voorhout – Noordeinde
Second Day;
The Beach - The Harbor of Scheveningen - Gemeentemuseum
(optional; a visit to the Fotomuseum/Gemeentemuseum)

F.A.Q.
What kind of transportation do we use?
The best way for observation and exploration is just walking. We will regularly take breaks to discuss what we have seen and view the first results on the display of the camera or laptop.

What will we do in case of bad weather?
If the weather is really bad or too cold, we will postpone the class until the week thereafter.

Do we all photograph the same subjects?
No, not at all. We all have different interests and backgrounds. I will guide you and show a way you could look at things, not how you should. I also will help you f.e. with composition or the use of the camera.

What kind of camera do I need?
A DSLR-camera or a compact camera. Some phones can give pretty good results too.

What is the group size?
About 8 is the maximum.

Verkenningen in Den Haag
Men hoeft geen expat te zijn om je stad te gaan (her)ontdekken. De workshop kan daarom ook voor de 'nederlandse' werknemers inspirerend zijn. Wat valt je op als je in een stad rondloopt en hoe leg je dat op fotografische wijze vast?
Tijdens deze workshop gaan we dat in drie ochtenden bekijken en vastleggen.
Het is onmogelijk om elke buurt te bezoeken en – zoals in elke grotere stad – zijn niet alle wijken en straten even interessant of fotogeniek. We lopen daarom de bovenstaande ‘aangename" routes. We gaan daarbij echter niet alleen op zoek naar alleen de stereotype mooie plaatjes voor de VVV, maar proberen nieuwe onbekende invalshoekn te ontdekken.
Er wordt gelopen, gekeken, beschouwd en (luchtig) gefilosofeerd. Onderweg lassen we regelmatig een pauze in voor een kop koffie en om de resultaten te bekijken.
Ook in deze workshop ligt de meerwaarde in het feit dat je manier en richting van kijken, en denken, verscherpt wordt. Dat hoeft niet alleen zijn vruchten af te werpen in "een betere foto", maar zeker ook wanneer er creativiteit en inventiviteit op de werkvloer getoond moet worden.
